Mykonos Island
The island of the winds has long been worshiped as a cosmopolitan hub thanks to its intoxicating energy, various impressive landmarks, exotic beaches and, of course, its plentiful entertainment options. Enjoy your strolls amid the winding cobblestone streets of picturesque Mykonos town, known as Chora, with its striking white cubed dwellings, typical of the Cycladic architecture, their colorfully-painted wooden doors and fragrant, blossomy yards. Revel in window-shopping at the retail district of Matogianni street, to see the most fashionable couture shop displays, and indulge in a cheerful shopping spree. Cute souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants are also found in abundance in Chora, and so are lovely art galleries which open their doors every summer. On the west side of Chora, you will find Little Venice, a picturesque neighborhood, adorned with traditional whitewashed houses that feature colorful balconies hanging over the waves. Little Venice is also an ideal place to admire the magnificent sunset. Another landmark of the island is its distinctive Windmills, located on a hill near Chora. Although they are no longer operational, over the years they have become a folkloric symbol of Mykonos. The Lighthouse of Armenistis, gracefully rising 19 meters high over the hill of Cape Armenistis, at the western part of the island, is a reminiscence of the rich maritime past of Mykonos. The Lighthouse offers panoramic views of the neighboring Tinos island, the Aegean Sea and a breathtaking sunset in the afternoon hours.
